Menopause and Heart

CARAMEL CVD Prevention Portal

Menopause and Heart is the evidence-informed, co-designed cardiovascular disease (CVD) Prevention Portal developed within CARAMEL to support cardiovascular prevention during the menopausal transition. This publicly accessible, non-commercial digital resource translates research evidence, end-user requirements and co-creation findings into dedicated scientifically sound information about menopause and heart health for women aged 40–60 and healthcare professionals, a curated Resources Hub, and access to the CARAMEL cardiovascular risk self-assessment app. The name reflects a key finding from the co-creation process: participating women often approached cardiovascular health through menopause-related questions. A menopause-first identity therefore makes the Portal’s purpose clearer, more relevant and easier to discover.

CARAMEL cardiovascular risk self-assessment

The CARAMEL cardiovascular risk self-assessment will soon help eligible users to explore their estimated risk of experiencing a cardiovascular event over the next ten years. Using the SCORE2 risk prediction algorithm and the information provided by the user, the tool will generate an estimated risk level, together with links to relevant Menopause and Heart resources.

The self-assessment will be available through a web-based interface on the Menopause and Heart Portal and through the Android app. The self-assessment is an awareness and educational tool. It does not provide a medical diagnosis and does not replace advice or assessment from a healthcare professional.

The CARAMEL project is further researching the impact of menopause related risk modifiers into the risk assessment and stratification framework of cardiovascular disease within women between 40-60 years. Finding of such research will be made actionable into an updated version of the self-assessment app, providing a novel tool for the self-assessment and self-empowerment of women about their heart health.
