On 21 May 2025, the CARAMEL project formally launched its collaboration with the External Advisory Board (EAB), a milestone moment that brings strategic oversight and independent expertise to the heart of the project’s mission.

The meeting was chaired by Iván Macía, Project Coordinator from Vicomtech, and served as an opportunity to initiate an open dialogue between the consortium and a group of internationally recognised experts. The agenda included a comprehensive presentation of the CARAMEL project’s vision, goals, and methodology, followed by a roundtable where each EAB member introduced their background and areas of expertise.

A key moment in the session was the detailed explanation of the EAB’s role and methods of engagement. This includes participation in online and face-to-face meetings, access to confidential project documents and deliverables, and the opportunity to support dissemination activities through their professional networks and affiliations. Members also provided valuable insights into potential implementation challenges and priority areas to consider, offering strategic reflections at this crucial stage in the project (Month 6).

A public announcement of the kick-off, including individual recognition and tagging of all EAB members, is available on our LinkedIn page.

The role and importance of the EAB

CARAMEL’s EAB will ensure that the project delivers on its ambition to revolutionise cardiovascular prevention for women aged 40–60 through personalised, AI-powered tools.

The EAB’s mission is to provide independent, high-level advice across the scientific, ethical, and strategic dimensions of the project. Its contributions will ensure that CARAMEL remains aligned with the latest developments in research, clinical practice, and European health policy.

With expertise spanning cardiovascular medicine, artificial intelligence, women’s health, public health, and data ethics, the board brings a multidisciplinary and international perspective to the table.

Next Steps and Impact

The EAB will meet every six months to review project progress, advise on strategic directions, and ensure the highest standards of quality and inclusion. A dedicated communication channel and private repository has been established to facilitate ongoing consultation and access to relevant materials.

EAB members are also expected to play an important role in the dissemination of project outcomes, by promoting CARAMEL’s innovations at key scientific and policy events.

Their input will be documented and integrated into the project’s formal reporting, reinforcing transparency, accountability, and real-world relevance throughout CARAMEL’s lifecycle.

The CARAMEL consortium warmly thanks all members of the External Advisory Board for their commitment and vision. Their guidance will be essential in helping the project deliver impactful, inclusive, and sustainable innovations for women’s heart health.
